Wes' Story
Over the summer of 2017, I was given the opportunity to go on a mission trip with my youth group. We would be headed to IDES headquarters in Indianapolis. While there, I saw firsthand the impact that this amazing ministry has on the lives of people all over the world. IDES is engaged in disaster response to areas in the US affected by hurricanes, food distribution to impoverished countries, provision of medical care, and so much more. I was given specific opportunites to work in their shed program, where I helped build two sheds. IDES videoed the process, with the purpose of using it as a guide for others in the future. I also got to package food and create small care kits. IDES explained how these things would greatly impact people's lives. The best part was that through it all, the Gospel of Jesus Christ was shared.
When discussing this 5K with my classmates, we considered several charities. One of my friends spoke up about raising money for hurricane relief, but wanted to help an organization small and in tune with our Christian values. IDES came to mind immediately. I'm very happy to say that we will be raising money for a charity which greatly impacts many people around the world.

A "SHED" CAN CHANGE A LIFE
When a hurricane strikes in the US, IDES ships partially assembled sheds to the affected area. There, they are distributed through local churches, giving people the opportunity to take them home and complete them. Beneath the rubble of their homes, families will salvage what they can, storing it in these sheds. While it may not seem so, they can mean the world to families trying to clean up the devastation left behind. One of the best parts of the process is the care that local churches get to provide for their communities. Through this service, people are able to experience the love of Jesus Christ. |
Other areas of outreach
Volunteers at IDES package meals for distribution to malnourished people around the world.
IDES provides medical assistance to developing countries in dire need. This picture shows a vision clinic in Myanmar.

IDES helps improve communities around the world by giving a "hand up" in the form of livestock. Here, they are giving cattle to impoverished families in India.
As a part of disaster response, outreach also includes helping communities rebuild structures that have been damaged. Here, IDES helps in the reconstruction of a building in India.
